Frequently asked questions
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based model of psychotherapy based on the concept of the multiplicity of the psyche. Rather than being a "mono-mind," we are all made up of many different parts—inner sub-personalities that have their own unique beliefs, values, and perspectives.
In this model, no part is "bad." Some parts may carry burdens from the past or use protective strategies that no longer serve us, but their original intent is always to help.
At our core, we also have a Self—a seat of consciousness characterized by what we call the "8 C’s":
Calm, Curiosity, Compassion, Confidence, Courage, Clarity, Connectedness, and Creativity.
IFS is a truly compassionate and non-pathologising way to explore who we are as individuals and humans. It allows us to step into "Self-leadership," where we can relate to our internal system with the same care and wisdom we would offer a loved one.
Are you formally trained in this?
Yes. Your facilitator, Nicholas, is a certified IFS practitioner who has completed all three levels of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Institute’s professional training. This represents the highest level of formal certification in the model globally.
Nicholas brings a multidisciplinary approach to healing, working as a Psychotherapist, meditation teacher, Acupuncturist, and Medical Practitioner. This background allows him to hold a container that is both clinically grounded and deeply soulful.
With over 7 years of experience in facilitating group work—including meditation courses, men’s circles, and retreats—Nicholas is dedicated to creating safe, transformative spaces where individuals can move toward a more Self-led life..
Do I need any prior experience to participate?
No prior experience with IFS or psychotherapy is required.
This container is designed to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you are brand new to "parts work" or have been in therapy for years, the sessions are structured to provide a clear foundational understanding before moving into deeper group work.
What is most important is:
Curiosity: A genuine desire to know more about yourself and your internal world.
Openness: A willingness to connect with others in a supportive, shared environment.
Commitment: A readiness to attend the 6 weekly sessions to maintain the safety and continuity of the group container.
Is there a physical or somatic component to this therapy?
Yes, absolutely.
In the IFS model, the parts of us that feel emotions, hold beliefs, and carry the impact of past experiences are almost always located within the body. You might feel a "tightness" in your chest when anxious, or a "heaviness" in your shoulders when burdened; these are the physical voices of your parts.
Because of Nicholas’s background as a Medical Doctor and Acupuncturist, he has a specific interest in how emotional and psychological states manifest physically. In this container, we treat the body and somatic experience as the primary doorway to healing. Rather than just talking about your parts, we learn to listen to them through the sensations they hold, allowing for a more profound "unburdening" and a return to physical and emotional ease.
How can I contact you?

Questions or expressions of interest are always welcome.
Can this group be a replacement for 1:1 therapy?
In short: no. While group work is a powerful adjunct to 1-on-1 individual therapy, it is not a replacement for it. If you are currently working with a therapist, this program can often accelerate your progress by providing a clearer, more embodied map of your internal landscape that you can then bring back to your individual sessions.
The benefits of exploring the internal world within a group are wide-reaching; humans have utilized the power of collective healing circles throughout history. Alongside forming supportive relationships and community, a group offers the unique opportunity to "witness" others' parts, which often helps us understand our own with more clarity and compassion.
However, 1:1 therapy remains vital for deep, individualized trauma work.
If you are currently in crisis or requiring urgent psychological support, we strongly recommend and encourage you to seek out an individual therapist or specialist service
